7 Marks of Emotionally Healthy Discipleship
In recent times I’ve gained a lot from Pete Scazzero’s vision of emotionally healthy spirituality.
Essentially, there shouldn’t be a disconnect between our emotional and spiritual maturity. As I get older, and hopefully wiser!?, and with more experience as a Christian and a church leader, I find Pete’s definition of discipleship appealing. It sounds like Jesus, and it is probably a million miles from the definition I would have written as a young adult informed by the church growth movement. See what you think and share your thoughts with us…
- Be present to yourself in order to be present to others
- Follow the crucified Jesus – let this drive out bad discipleship
- Embrace God’s gift of limits – our limits can free us rather than oppressing us
- Grief and loss – integrate and learn from both
- Make love the measure of my spirituality
- Breaking the power of the past
- Leading out of vulnerability and weakness
